Sending and Receiving

Flowers are the most erotic of God’s creatures. They let it all hang out and they are not picky as to who drops in to wonder and wander.

This white extravaganza is an Asian lily.

Lily White was a famous female impersonator in the Atlanta area in the 1980's.

Lily White

I am not sure of the correct moniker for this red/burnt orange offering.

Silver and orange are the 2 words in English that have no rhyming partners.

What Rhymes With Silver?

The great thing about lilies is that once they get started they are very easy to maintain and each year they come back with more wonder and wander.

And the fight continues, the fight between the darkness and the light and the spin and the dead.

Genius – The Genes in Us

I got Games for the Super-Intelligent – Math, Logic, and Word Puzzles – James F. Fixx, as one of my birthday presents.

While I possess above average intelligence, I know that I am not Super-Intelligent. I have been able to solve a few puzzles. However, I suspect the book was intentionally crafted this way to flatter the ego of the reader/buyer.

Got this mow cow ballon from Jen for my birthday.

Hey Diddle Diddle

I am very content with the intelligence I have been given. I still remain entertained by the comings and goings of my mind. Additional intelligence might actually spoil some of the fun.

Instead of additional intelligence I just want back what I used to have – better, memory and vision.

"Water lilies double in area every 24 hours. At the beginning of the summer there is one water lily on a lake. It takes 60 days for the lake to become completely covered with water lilies. On what day is the lake half covered?"

The Rise & Fall

I had a need to know the name of the spice planet in Dune – Arrakis.

This yellow jacket was in the house today, looking for trouble. Actually, I discovered it is a hornet.

Once The Mighty Fallen

This led to Edward Gibbon’ s – The Decline & Fall of The Roman Empire (first of six volumes published in 1776).

Things of note –

1. I had thought the title of this work was The Rise & Fall of The Roman Empire.

2. The Decline covers the period 180 AD – 1590. Empires take a long, long, time to fall apart.

3. “According to Gibbon, the Roman Empire succumbed to barbarian invasions in large part due to the gradual loss of civic virtue among its citizens. [4] They had become weak, outsourcing their duties to defend their Empire to barbarian mercenaries, who then became so numerous and ingrained that they were able to take over the Empire. Romans, he believed, had become effeminate, unwilling to live a tougher, "manly" military lifestyle. He further blames the degeneracy of the Roman army and the Praetorian guards. In addition, Gibbon argued that Christianity created a belief that a better life existed after death, which fostered an indifference to the present among Roman citizens, thus sapping their desire to sacrifice for the Empire. He also believed its comparative pacifism tended to hamper the traditional Roman martial spirit."
